A Burlesque Valentine 2004

BAWDY BRAZEN BIG

“You can leave your hat on…”

Burlesque-04-Johnna-WrightOur 2004 gala benefit and silent auction, “A Burlesque Valentine,” was attended by the Mayor of Vancouver, Larry Campbell.

Presented at the Arts Club Theatre Revue Stage on Sunday, February 15, 2004, the evening capped off Theatre Cares Week.  Proceeds from our fundraising efforts were divided between the Actors’ Fund of Canada, local HIV/AIDS relief, and PAL Vancouver (Performing Arts Lodge).  We proudly raised over $40,000 for our charities.

Our bawdy and ribald show featured some of Vancouver’s sauciest, funniest, most lusty and lascivious, naughty and downright delicious talent, as well as a fantastic silent auction with many packages and items worth thousands of dollars. Hosting duties were shared by Fiona Forbes and Michael Eckford from CityTV’s Breakfast Television, perennial favourites and TheatreSports alumni Shawn Macdonald and Ellie Harvie (Morticia from The New Addams Family), and James Fagan Tait (Leaky Heaven Circus).  Performers included Denis Simpson, the Wet Spots, Vancouver TheatreSports League, Ballet BC, Little Miss Naughty, Cailin Stadnyk, Gut Wrench, the Hot Toddy Girls, Tara Cheyenne, Wild Excursions Performance and The Plaids (as you’ve never seen them before!).

That year, thanks to the shameless behaviour of our theatre colleagues, Theatre Cares Vancouver was able to raise nearly $40,000 to support HIV/AIDS-related charities.
